Activities

For a truly unique adventure, explore the live volcanic island of Whakaari (White Island). Fly or cruise to the island and see the sulphur fumeroles and roaring steam vents. An active volcano for the last 50,000 years with an astonishing tapestry of colour, texture, sound and steam, its one of the world's best scenic reserves.

Below the surface of the sea the offshore reefs offer superb fishing and diving, so check out one of the many charter boats travelling out each day. And don't forget you can swim with the dolphins over the summer season. If you are lucky you will see whales and sharks.

Enjoy riding beautiful horses with John on his farm - through paddocks, native forest, mountains, rivers and beaches. All rides are tailored to suit your needs.

We encourage you to continue your travels along the Pacific Coast to the East Cape. The light house at Te Araroa is one of the first places in the world to see the sun rise each day. You will find small, cosy hostels right on the waters edge, run by wonderful local people. The scenery is stunning and the ocean is turquoise. See www.bbh.co.nz for hostel details.
